Ph.D. topic: Benefits of agroforestry systems for regulation of the nitrogen cycle and provision of associated ecosystem services in the context of climate change in Brittany (France)

This thesis investigates benefits of agroforestry systems for regulation of the nitrogen cycle and provision of associated ecosystem services, based on two forms of agroforestry found in Brittany: hedgerows and alley-cropping agroforestry. First, I will study the influence of trees on nitrification in saturated soils. The results will help to adapt a model of the nitrogen cycle to predict losses of reactive nitrogen in agroforestry systems in the context of climate change. This model will then be used to estimate ecosystem services associated with the nitrogen cycle and to discuss agroforestry development in Brittany with a variety of stakeholders.
